Gender: Male
Age: 320 (appears 20)
Physical Appearance:

Personal History: Justin is the first of two boys given birth by the vampire Sofia Martingale, and the human Buck Martingale. About three years later, their second son Errol was born. They both had a normal childhood in their home town of Moonlight Falls, growing up, playing sports, going to school, etc. It was when Justin became an adult when he noticed the changes in his physiology. He noticed that his skin began to burn after several hours in the sunlight. He also noticed that he could no longer eat food; his hunger pangs were replaced with an insatiable thirst that couldn't be quenched by water. His enhanced speed and strength also made themselves apparent when he accidentally hit Errol with a kickball much harder than he had intended, and he constantly beat Errol in races by a large margin. Knowing that their mother was a vampire, Justin knew that he had inherited her traits; but no one understood why Errol hadn't. While watching his father and brother growing older, Justin did his best to make the most of his time with them. He continued to play and study martial arts with them until they were no longer physically capable. When they passed, both Justin and Sofia were heartbroken. Sofia vowed to have no more romantic relationships and no more children, for she did not want to bear the heartache of losing them to old age again. Justin hoped that he could at least have a sibling who would be a dhampir like him so that they could live forever together, but he understood and respected his mother's feelings. At least they still had each other.

As time went on, the world became aware of vampires, as well as other people harboring special powers. Normal humans became prejudiced against anyone with powers, whether they were human, vampire, or otherwise. Those people became known collectively as "Aberrants."

One day, Sofia was approached by an organization called the Unseen Squad, needing someone with her power. They were gathering people of power to challenge a rival organization known as the Slayer Brigade. Both organizations were sick of the prejudice going on against the Aberrants, but each had radically different ideas of solving the problem. The Unseen Squad wished to make peace with the normal population, while the Slayer Brigade wants to dominate the world entirely with their powers. Initially the Unseen Squad was a group of highly intelligent secret agents, but with the powers of the Slayer Brigade, they needed to "fight fire with fire." Sofia agreed to join the Squad, but Justin didn't view himself as powerful enough, so he stayed out of his mother's new secret agent life.

In the time that followed, Sofia rarely spoke of her activities in the Unseen Squad, and Justin rarely asked about them. Most of their remaining time together was spent practicing their combat skills, and Sofia trying to teach Justin how to use his vampiric abilities, namely hypnosis and mind-reading, but with no success. Sofia came to realize that the Slayer Brigade would eventually target Justin, so she wanted him to become as strong as possible.

Justin had no argument when it came to his martial arts training. Until this point, he had done it all his life purely for fun, but now it was a matter of survival. Justin took his training much more seriously, and participated in various martial arts tournaments, claiming countless victories. It got to a point where Justin could no longer find a challenge in it, but he continued to participate, hoping to find formidable opponents.

And then one tragic event happened that would forever turn Justin's life upside down. Sofia was killed by the Slayer Brigade's leader, Magnus Lancaster. And as she had predicted, they came for Justin next, at first wanting for him to join them. Justin refused to join his mother's killers, and so they called for his death as well. Justin managed to escape and fled to another town called Appaloosa Plains to start a new life. For the first time, Justin was truly alone. No friends, no family, just a world full of normal people who would despise him for his abilities, and an organization that wanted him dead.

Justin continued to live alone, keeping a cap on his strength and speed so as not to arouse suspicion. He participated in even more martial arts tournaments, winning even more victories, until he competed against a man named Qubine Icefield. It wasn't just his name that struck Justin as odd. The man had great reflexes and agility, though his fighting style was awkward. Justin could tell that Qubine was holding back as well, as if trying to keep his own special abilities hidden. This particular tournament ended in a draw between the two. Justin was impressed and almost elated that he had finally found a formidable opponent. But Qubine and his group had left before Justin had the chance to talk to him, so Justin assumed that he'd never see the man again.

A few days later, Justin came across a girl being attacked by a group of petty thugs in an alley. Unable to leave an innocent girl at their mercy, Justin intervened, giving the thugs a good thrashing. Grateful, the girl introduced herself as Liora Lightweaver, stating that she recognized Justin from the tournament and that Qubine was her friend. Justin immediately saw this as an opportunity to get in contact with Qubine, so he and Liora exchanged phone numbers.

They arranged a meeting at the park later that night, and Justin realized that Liora was just as odd as Qubine was. Strangely, she didn't seem to know anything about the playground equipment. Even more shocking was that Liora openly admitted to being an Aberrant. They both agreed that Aberrants should not be hated for their abilities, and that deep down, they were no different from those without powers. Justin began to feel something for Liora. At this point, he only recognized it as a deep desire to look after her.

A few days later, Justin got another call from Liora, asking for a more serious meeting, so he invited her to his house. The subject of this meeting stunned Justin beyond belief; Liora had joined the Unseen Squad, and they were learning about the Slayer Brigade in Appaloosa Plains. She named Zelgius Black as the leader, making Justin realize that this was a different branch from the Slayer Brigade in Moonlight Falls. While initially livid at this news, Justin noted that joining the Unseen Squad would have several advantages: Getting closer to both Qubine and Liora, having a team of allies and formidable sparring opponents, to name a few. Justin also vowed to avenge his mother and continue the mission that she had begun. While giving the Unseen Squad orientation, the director Kraven Moonraker revealed that Qubine, Liora, and the others were actually dragons in human form. The news was shocking, but it did explain Qubine's awkward fighting style and Liora's lack of playground knowledge. Suddenly, Justin felt a sense of being "normal," that he hadn't felt since his adolescent years.

In the days that followed, Justin tried to get to know his new comrades better, especially Liora, as his feelings for her grew. He even arranged a romantic date with her by making reservations at a fancy steakhouse, only to be attacked by a strange hooded figure. The figure came close to killing him, until Liora arrived and drove the figure away. This was Justin's first time witnessing Liora's power, further impressing him. The fact that she saved his life only made him even more infatuated, but he was seething at how the attack ruined his date.

But Justin wasn't giving up. He arranged another "date," this time inviting Liora to spend the night in his living quarters, where they know they would be safe. Liora reveals her past, where her world had been destroyed by a dragon named Erebus, and her clan had been transported here and transformed into humans to begin a new life. Naturally, Justin sympathized, offering her a shoulder to cry on.

During one of their walks, Justin and Liora were approached by a man named Eric Shade, apparently an acquaintance of Liora's. Something seemed off to Justin, so he let his eyes glow, reading the man's mind. What he saw shocked him - he saw Eric as the hooded figure who had attacked him in the restaurant, and he saw the black dragon named Erebus, the one who had destroyed Liora's world. This was one of the very few times where Justin's mind-reading ability actually succeeded. Eric/Erebus fled, diving into the shadows to make his escape. Justin and Liora returned home. In spite of everything, Liora still believed that Erebus was capable of redemption, as he had only been acting under the Shade's influence. Justin found himself torn in his judgment; he didn't trust Eric one bit, but he did trust Liora. He just prayed that Eric wouldn't hurt her.

Kraven Moonraker gifted a new weapon to Justin - a special parasol capable of blocking all but the most destructive of attacks, and a short sword hidden within the pole. Justin requested a way to carry the parasol on his person so he could keep his hands free, so Kraven passed that request to the computer and invention specialist, David Locke.

Personality: When he's not busy bearing a grudge against the Slayer Brigade, Justin is actually a pretty chill guy. Most of the time he appears deadpan and nonchalant, but when he gets into a conversation about his favorite subjects, he can get childishly excited. When he gets especially annoyed, he'll fire off snarky remarks. He can be friendly and sociable if he sees someone taking an interest in something he also likes. He does not make friends easily, due to his mixed heritage and the prejudice against Aberrants, and the knowledge that they would eventually grow old and die. For most of his life, he's only had his mother for a friend. He was close to his father and brother while they were alive, but he's long since been accustomed to them being gone. Justin has become especially guarded since Errol's death and the prejudice against Aberrants began, which only contributed to his lack of friendships. He began to feel disconnected from his mother Sofia after she joined the Unseen Squad, but perhaps Sofia had intended for that to happen in order to protect him. Justin's love for his mother went unchanged, as evidenced by his reaction to her death, and his bitterness towards Magnus Lancaster and the Slayer Brigade.

Justin enjoys action figures and playgrounds, the same kinds of activities that young children enjoy. He longs to have as much fun as he can, which was the initial motivation behind his martial arts training. He enjoyed a variety of outdoor sports while he was growing up, but when he became an adult and his vampiric traits developed, martial arts became his sole sport. He's had many sparring matches with Errol, some of which with toy swords. Justin can pick up a sword and defend himself, but he's never learned the proper techniques. He enjoys spending most of his time outdoors, despite his weakness to sunlight. When he's alone in his room, he likes to play with his action figures or toy spaceships.

With regards to his mixed heritage, Justin prefers to live as humanly as possible. He's not too fond of vampires in general, most of whom have an arrogant attitude, which he hates. He's extremely grateful for the development of plasma fruit and juice, which allows him to nourish himself without needing to feed on human or animal blood. He's somewhat grateful for the advantages his heritage provides over being a pure blood of either species, but if he had to choose whether he'd prefer to be a human or vampire, Justin would choose to be human. He remarks to Kraven Moonraker that living forever isn't all it's cracked up to be.

The Unseen Squad in Appaloosa Plains has given Justin a new purpose in life: Avenging his mother and continuing her mission, sparring with his new fellow agents, and getting to know the pretty girl he had saved from the thugs. Despite all of his skill and training, he was still surprised when Liora calls him a great warrior. Qubine points out that even if Justin doesn't see himself as a great warrior, he was certainly a true warrior who refuses to be defeated. Justin is still unsure how he feels about the other Unseen Squad who are actually dragons from another world in human form. At the very least he does feel "normal" around them, if only because they are even stranger than he is. At the same time, he feels like an outsider, as the agents had been a clan long before they joined the Unseen Squad, and he can sense their camaraderie he just doesn't have.

Meeting Liora was another life-changing experience for him, perhaps the only positive change he's had. At first he only saw a timid, innocent girl that he needed to look after, but the more he gets to know her, the more he can see her inner strength. He was genuinely touched when she showed concern for him, such as worrying that he would hurt himself by doing a flip off the swing set. He's eager to move the relationship forward, but he's careful to respect Liora's boundaries, not only because she's a timid girl, but because she and her fellow dragons are still learning about human culture, and learning how to be human in general. Therefore, Justin's taking it one step at a time, hoping that he'll eventually be able to have a romantic date with her without interruption, and perhaps get that first kiss. He's waiting for the day when he works up the courage to ask her to be his girlfriend, and then later on, to be his wife.

Strengths
Physical: Justin's half-human, half-vampire heritage gives him several advantages over the pure blood of either species. He stopped aging when he got through his teenage years, and he's been alive for over 300 years. This has given him plenty of time to study many styles of martial arts, and plenty of time to improve his skills. He has also worked out, building his strength and cardio to the peak of human ability, and his vampire traits give him ten times the speed and strength of the average human. All of this makes him a very formidable fighter.

His vampire traits also make him difficult to kill, and most of his wounds take mere seconds to heal. His human side helps him resist most of the common vampire weaknesses as well, such as sunlight, though that can still affect him negatively (more on that in the weaknesses section).

Mental: Justin's martial arts training has given him a strong sense of discipline. He also has an ability to read minds and hypnotize people; it rarely works, but the ability is there. One time his mind-reading worked was when he used it on Eric Shade to learn that he was the hooded figure who tried to kill him in the steakhouse, that he was the dragon who had destroyed Liora's world, and that his real name was Erebus.

Emotional: Justin takes most things with a grain of salt. He acts in a deadpan manner when people insult him, and depending on how rude they're being, he'll fire off some smart-ass remarks in return.

Weaknesses
Physical: Justin's first weakness would be sunlight, though it isn't apparent at first. He can withstand about an hour of exposure (or 30 additional minutes if he's using a parasol) before his skin starts to burn, and smoke begins to emit from his body. Another hour of exposure would result in draining his power, and his durability reduced to that of a normal human; continued exposure can potentially cause him to pass out. Once he's out of the sun, it would take around 4-6 hours to fully recover his vampire powers.

Although Justin's mixed heritage makes him difficult to kill, there are some ways to kill him. Driving a wooden stake through his heart would be effective, as that would be fatal for both humans and vampires. Beheading him would also work. Or one could take advantage of his sunlight weakness, wait for his vampire power to drain, and then kill him by any means that would kill a human.

Mental: Justin's mind-reading and hypnosis abilities fail 99% of the time, and each failed attempt gives him a massive headache. He blames that on just being a half-vampire; it makes sense that he only has half of the power. He has very little formal education beyond high school level.

Emotional: Justin considers himself "unlucky," and to be fair, he isn't entirely wrong. He views his heritage as more of a curse than a blessing, and it was just dumb luck that he was born with his mother's vampiric qualities while his brother wasn't. He often wishes that he could have grown old and died so he could reunite with his family in heaven, at least before he met Liora and her comrades. His bad luck seems to continue even now, as each attempt to spend romantic time with her gets interrupted. Justin can be a bit impulsive, particularly when it comes to the Slayer Brigade, and will chase a thug unless Liora talks him down.
